The History

The history of Ray's started over 55 years ago. Mike Miller's dad, Ray C Miller Sr., started repairing motorcycles in his basement in the late 1950's. One of the first motorcycles Ray ever sold was a 1961 lilac which is hanging on display by the front door of our store. In 1962 Ray purchased several new Yamaha's and Ray's was born. A picture of his garage in Reading, Pennsylvania hangs above the entrance doors to our showroom. Eventually the business outgrew that home garage and relocated in 1967 to 3811 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, Pennsylvania.

In 1967, at the age of 11, Mike started working with his father every day after school. He started from the ground up, learning every department of the motorcycle dealership. In 1986, Mike became part owner and general manager of the dealership while Ray enjoyed riding and camping. Another huge milestone happened in 1986, once again the business outgrew the location. A completely new building was resurrected at its present location 5560 Perkiomen Avenue., 422 East, Reading, Pennsylvania.

In July of 2012 Ray C. Miller passed away at the age of 95. Ray dedicated his life to this business. He built a solid foundation with his son and had great success. Ray enjoyed life and his family. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, and he rode them until he was 94. Today the family business is owned by Mike. Mike eats, breaths & sleeps this motorcycle shop and loves coming to work every day. He enjoys seeing his customers, employees and family. He takes great pride in business they have built.

• Why Change the name from Rays Yamaha to Reading Standard Motorsports?

  1. People knew us as Ray's Yamaha, We sell more than Yamaha. It also makes it difficult with our other manufacturers, when we advertise, for example, the last thing Polaris® wants to see is Yamaha in a Polaris® advertisement.
  2. Hearing our new name lets you know exactly where we are located. We believe in our city, and want people to buy Reading.
  3. We changed everything, new store, new brand, new attitude.

• A New Completely Remodeled Building

  "If you were in our building before 2015, you will think you are somewhere else."

  1. We are now a Destination! We have over 60 vintage motorcycles hanging from our walls. It's a one of a kind display that all motorcycle enthusiast will enjoy.
  2. We reinvented ourselves with a clean, organized, fully stocked, modernized Dealership. This year alone we bought over $100,000 of new parts & accessories like Joe Rocket, Icon, Alpine Star, Bell, Aria, Fox, Fly, and many more.
  3. We added the Polaris® Sling Shot, a street legal 3 wheeler. (Never has there been anything like this).
  4. We added Suzuki Motorcycles & ATV's to our dealership.
  5. We created a state of the art, 5 Star service department. Its affordable, friendly, and the home of the everyday $9.95 state inspection.
